Phase 2 of the Harbor in Fort Bay began in earnest last week, with the enlargement for the container storage area. The construction of the 1.93 million dollar project was been awarded to contractor Windward Roads, who also executed Phase 1.

Phase 2 of the project entails the construction of a 2 storey building which will house Customs and Immigration on the ground floor, the harbor office at the top and a storage area for Customs. The existing harbor office will be demolished so that the complex for the fishermen can be created; above this complex there will be parking spaces for the public.

The project design was carried out by CEC Windward N.V. and the project is being funded through the Social Economic Initiative (SEI), and financed through USONA. This is the last project that will be funded through the SEI as all funds have been allocated. Management of the project will be carried out by the Planning Bureau.

Commissioner Bruce Zagers said that he was pleased to see the progress that has been made at the harbor and that when this phase of the project is completed it will be a welcome addition to the infrastructure of the island.
